1) Lack of written business or marketing plan that defines clearly the objectives of the company.

2) Attempt to conduct complicated deals instead of using “The keep it simple” approach.

3) Failure to obtain assistance from qualified export/import advisor.

4) Lack of commitment to learn marketing, documentation, shipping, insuring payments and financing requirements.

5) Failure to carefully evaluate buyer/seller, agent/distributor.

6) Lack of focus on up to maximum of three specific product, instead chasing orders.

7) Failure to consider licensing, joint venture and other market entry strategies.

8) Lack of understanding business practices and cultures.

9) Assume a given product will automatically be successful in all markets.

10) Lack of follow-up and including providing service.
